The pie chart below shows where energy is used in a typical Australian household, and the table shows the amount of electricity used according to the number of occupants. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The pie chart depicts the division of energy used for different household purposes and the table describes the use of electricity in an Australian house.

Household purpose of heating and cooling requires maximum energy to operate which is 38 percent. For the proper functioning of water heating, it requires 25 percent of energy use. The lowest energy utilized is from the stand by power amounting only 3 percent. Cooking purpose needs only 4 percent of household energy. The power utilized in lighting and fridges and freezers is equivalent, about 7 percent each. Other appliances use household energy four times higher than the energy used for cooking purpose.

The amount of electricity used for only one person in the house ranges from 5000 to 6500 kWh per year. While, for 2 people, it starts from 6000 and ends up to 8500 kWh of electricity. For 3 people in an Australian house, the electricity usage is from 7500 to 10,000 kWh annually. This use gets dramatically high for 6 or more people living in a house ranging from 12,000 to 16,000 kWh per year.

Overall, the highest use of energy is in heating and cooling household purpose in an Australian home. If the number of people living in a house increases then the amount of electricity used is also increased.
