Overall, it is clear that the developing countries have the highest proportion of water used for agriculture, while the figure for industrial use is the largest in the developed countries such as Europe and North America.

Looking into more details, over 70% of water is used for agriculture in Central Asia, Africa, South East Asia and South America, at 88%, 84%, 81% and 71% respectively. Meanwhile, except for South America, the figures for domestic use in the developing countries are much lower than agriculture use, at approximately 8%. However, South America arrange 19% of water for domestic use, which is three fold than the other developing nations.

In the developed countries, about half of water arranged in industrial use, with 53% in Europe and 48% in north America. Surprisingly, in the former nation 32% of water used for agriculture and 39% in the latter nation. Besides, the figures for household use are the smallest among other water arranged.
