The pie charts below show units of electricity production by fuel source in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

A glance at the pie charts provided illustrates the changes in the amount of electricity which were produced by different sources of fuel in Australia and France during the period of 20 years from 1980 to 2000.

This is such a clear-cut evidence from the provided information that total production in both countries almost doubled through the entire period. In addition, Australian prefered using coal to produce electricity to using oil, nuclear power, hydro power, and natural gas during the time while French would rather produce electricity by nuclear power than use the others in 2000.

In 1980, Australia produced 100 units of electricity but half of them were from coal. Oil was the most uncommon fuel sources for producing electricity, which stood at 10 units. After mere 20 year, the total production rose to 170 units and coal was still the most prevalent fuel source for electricity production, accounting for 130 units. Besides, natural gas suffered a decline to the least popular source as oil with 2 units.

Turning to the fuel source in France, the electricity production in total was 90 units in 1980 and it doubled to 180 units in 2000. The striking feature is that the nuclear power used to produce electricity in 1980 was only 15 units. However, it became the most dominant fuel source with nearly 75 percent (126 units out of 180 units) after 20 years. Not forgetting to mention that the percentage of others fuel source went down in 2000.
