The reading and the lecture both discuss the Mars Mission and the problems related to it. The reading thinks that the Mars Trip is impossible and not easy like the Moon mission. The lecturer casts doubt the claims made in the reading. She believes that the Mars trip would be challenging, but scientists found solutions to the problems that discussed in the article.

First of all, the reading states that the round trip to Mars and back would take at least two years, and it would be hard to take enough supplies of food, water, and oxygen and without them, the trip would be undoable. The lecture rejects this argument by pointing out that scientists solve the problem of the supplies by the Hydroponics. The lecturer states that Hydroponic is a technique of growing plants roots with water instead of soil. She says for this technique they use clean water papers which provides water for astronauts, and plants absorb carbon-dioxide gas and release oxygen, so astronauts get fresh air to breath.

Secondly, the reading suggests that astronauts on the Mars mission would be in the zero gravity which has negative effects on their muscles. However, the lecturer claims that a few decades astronauts orbited the earth many times and stayed in the zero gravity. Furthermore, the lecturer says that they used several techniques such as regular exercise and having Calcium vitamins will decrease the muscle mass and reduce the effect of the zero gravity.

Finally, the reading proposes that astronauts would expose to wide levels of dangerous radiation that come from the sun. The lecturer, on the other hand, notes that this solar radiation would be occasionally and not all the time. She demonstrates that astronauts used special equipment to detect the dangerous radiation and build a shelter to stay there until the dangerous radiation has passed.
