The table shows data about the underground rail networks in terms of the routes covered, annually commuters traveling and date of establishment in six major cities.

It is clear that the three oldest underground rail systems are larger and serve significantly more passengers than the newer networks.

The London underground system is the oldest, having opened in 1863. It is seen as the longest rail covered, with 394 kilometers, followed by underground rail in Paris, with 199 kilometers of route. On the other hand, the rail networks in Toky is twice as shorter as in London, but it serves the largest demand for traveling, with 1927 million passengers per year.

of the three newer networks, Washington DC is witnessed as the most extensive in size, with 28 kilometers of route, compared to merely 11 kilometers and 28 kilometers for Kyoto and Washington DC systems. Furthermore, Kyoto has the shortest route in line with the lowest commuters served, with 45 million per years, while Los Angeles is the newest system which is established in 2001.
