The following table shows consumers’ expenditures on three distinctive categories in five different countries in 2002 in terms of percentage.
As can be clearly observed from the table, there are three different categories including Food/Drinks/Tobacco, Clothing/Footwear, and Leisure/Education. Turkish consumers spent 32.14% on Food/Drinks/Tobacco. Followed by Ireland with 28.91%, Spain with 18.80%, Italy with 16.36%, and Sweden with 15.77%. Unlike Swedish people which consumed 5.40% on Clothing/Footwear, Italian people spent 9.00% on the same category in 2002 which was the maximum percentage. While nearly the same proportion was spent by Spain, and Ireland, 6.51% and 6.43%, respectively, it was a bit more in Turkey by 6.63%.
Turning to Leisure/Education category, the smallest consumption belonged to Spain by 1.98%, by contrast the maximum was 4.35% of Turkish people. Sweden by 3.22%, Italy by 3.20%, and Ireland by 2.21% were placed between the most and the least expenditures of Turkey and Spain.
Overall, Despite the fact that national consumers in all five countries spent the most of their money on buying such items as food, drinks, and tobacco, the least expenditures were on Leisure/Education in 2002. Spending on Closing/Footwear was in the middle rank amongst all five countries at the same year.
