The table below shows the monthly expenditure of an average Australian family in 1991 and 2001.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The data compares the monthly spending patterns of an ordinary household in Australia during the decade 1991 to 2001. Figures are measured in Australia dollars ($).

Overall, the amount of money spent per month exhibited a marginal increase across the period shown, of which the family spent the most on non-necessary goods but the least on attire. Of the six categories provided, only the spending on clothes and transport was seen to reduce.

In total, the sum spent by the family increased by 6% during the years in question, from $675 to $715. The largest growth in expenditure was seen in power and water, for which the outgoings increased from $75 to $120 throughout the decade, representing a growth of 60%. By comparison, the expenditure on subsistence and accommodation only recorded a modest rise of $5 each. Products and services which were not necessary also demonstrated a growth in expenses, rising by $20 to $270 in 2001.

The two items that bucked the upward trend illustrated above were clothing and transport. The spending on garments decreased by one-third from 30 to 20 between 1991 and 2001. Similarly, the family the spent less on transportation in 2001, a reduction of approximately 35% as opposed to the 1991 figure.

Hi there,

I am confuse about the mark because the report I unloaded here is the original answer wirten by one former IELTS examiner. I know maybe it is not a perfect answer as he said, but I still think it may worth more marks.

Well, a former IELTS examiner doesn't mean a good writer. It has a lot of issues from the original answer and it is actually misleading users like putting a lot of percentages in the essay. If you compare the sample essay we give and this essay, you can understand which one is better.

So don't be confused. Follow the samples we give which are the best.
