The table illustrates the social and economic indicators as per the United Nations statistics for the year 1994 for Canada, Japan, Peru and Zaire. Overall, the social and economic status of Japan and Canada is better when compared to Peru and Zaire.
To begin, income per person per year in Japan is about 15750 dollars and this number is somewhat similar in Canada with a difference of just over 4600 dollars. In both Peru and Zaire, annual income was around 160 dollars and 130 dollars . The proportion of educated people was largest in Japan and Canada accounting to 99% in both the countries. While the adult literacy rate in Peru was just over two-thirds whereas in Zaire it was 34%.
The social indicators, life expectancy and calorie intake per person followed the similar trend. The rate of life expectancy in Japan was 2% higher than that of Canada. This rate was just over half in Peru and below half in Zaire. Also, number of calories consumed per person was 3326 in Canada and 2846 in Japan. While this number was least in Zaire at around 1749 and 1927 in Peru. It is clear that the standard of living in Canada and Japan is far better than that of Peru and Zaire.
