Worldwide mobile phone sales in 2005 & 2006 (share of market)
The table compares leading mobile phone vendors in terms of their market share in two years 2005 and 2006.
Overall, there was an upward trend in the market share of Nokia, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson, as opposed to Samsung, L.G, BenQ Mobile, and other manufacturers. Also, Nokia was the clear market leader in both years.
Nokia led the smartphone market in 2005 and 2006, with the market share accounting for 32.5% and 35% of total sales respectively. Its closest rival, Motorola, witnessed a rise of 5% in the market share, from 17.7% to 21.1% over the same period. Sony was the other vendor that saw a rise in its smartphone sales, with the figure rising by around 1%.
Samsung came in a third position in terms of sales in 2005 with a share of 12.7%, which then dropped to 11.8% a year later. Besides, both LG and BenQ reported a fall in sales over the period, with the figures for the latter noticeably seeing a dramatic decline of 2.5%. Other manufacturers, constituting 19.2% of the global smartphone sales in 2005, saw a considerable decrease of 4% at the end of the period.
