For centuries, important parts of education have remained such as reading, writing and maths. With the advent of computers, some people think that computer skill be made as a fourth skill to be added to the list. To what extent do you agree? (IELTS Academ

In today's world one cannot imagine doing anything without the use of recent technologies. This has been possible due to advancement in computer and industrial automation. People may argue that computer being an essential part of today's life it should be a part in the schools academic along with reading, writing and arithmetic. I my opinion, I personally feel that computer soft skill should be taught in school but it should not be considered as an additional skill or it should not replace reading, writing and maths.

People in support of computer soft skill are of the opinion that as computers are replacing many monotonous jobs. They also provide assistant to loads of information. So to be in pace with the todays world, it is necessary for one to develop additional skills apart from just reading, writing and calculating. By learning softwares like Microsoft word , excel and powerpoint; letters, reports, statistic and presentation can be prepared without any hassle. This will make office jobs easier and productive. By learning how to use internet one can get access to load of information.
Apart from official use also software skill are essential in industrial application too. Software such as MatLab have helped people prepare circuit and test the output prior to building one. This has certainly eliminated the cost of building test models. Similarly with the use of programming software like C, C++ and java which is useful in embedded technologies. So with numerous software implementation in today's world to ease our life it is certainly essential for software skill to be taught in schools.
Some people and I am of the other opinion. Though computer has shaped and eased our life. We should still be rooted to our basic. If software skill are being emphasized more in the school, then children would neglect basic intelligence. They would get hooked on the computer for small solution too. Let it be addition of two number, vocabulary or grammar they would certainly rely on computer software for answer. This will certainly affect the IQ, reasoning skill and intelligence of the child.
Also on daily basis new softwares are available in the market. These software has different programming technique and uses. So in spite of a particular software being taught in school after few years that particular software become obsolete. So the time and effort and logic behind it goes in vain. This is also the main disadvantage.

So to conclude, though computer has made our life easier, lets not forget the basis of our education and stick to the old methods of education system. There is no harm in teaching computers in school but there should not regard it as the fourth skill.
