Employers sometimes ask people applying for jobs for personal information such as their hobbies and interests and whether they are married or single Some people say that this information may be relevant and useful others disagree Discuss both views and yo

Many people are of the opinion that the personal details like hobbies and marital status taken by the employers are useful to them, whereas others argue with disagreement toward it. I believe, an employee is considered as a family of that company, so it is relevant to gather all the information of a hired candidate, however, such information should not be considered in deciding the employment for that person.

All the companies across the globe asks for personal information of the applying candidate. This is because it might help the interviewer to know the background of the interviewee. It helps the HR to know the some preferences and goals of the candidate, for instance, if the employer is looking for a person who can relocate, so if they know that the candidate is unmarried, it gets easy for him or her to relocate as for married person moving entire family may seem difficult. So under such circumstances, such information proves to be helpful.

On the other hand, people who disagrees, thinks that most important thing to consider for a job are its skills. People are tested on their experiences and skills, and the personal information is just an unnecessary formality. Even though, most of the companies focuses on skills there are some people who rely on marital the marital status, especially for girls. Studies in India, has shown that majority of company rejects female candidate due to their unmarried status, thinking they might leave the company and migrate to other city after marriage. So, selecting candidates on that seems irrelevant, and it takes the opportunity from females to grow and achieve their career goals.

In conclusion, having a background check of a candidate is important for the company, and it also helps in deciding future opportunities. However, taking such personal information as a selecting procedure for the interviewee should not be practiced, as it demotivates the person and takes away the career goals from them.
