Dear Sir,
I am writing to apologize for not being able to return the books which I borrowed from the library last week as I had to rush to another city to take care of my grandmother. Allow me to explain the situation in detail.
To elucidate last week my grandmother had fallen sick due to food poisoning, therefore, she was immediately hospitalized. Unfortunately, my father was travelling so I had to rush to Bristol to take care of her in my father's absence. Although I was supposed to return the books borrowed from the library last week as per the policy guidelines, however, I was unable to return the books due to the above aforesaid reason mentioned above, therefore, I would like to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Lastly, I would be returning back to my hometown tomorrow. Upon arrival, I would be able to return the books back to the library first thing in the morning.
