The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given line graph demonstrates the average amount of greenhouse gas (CO2) emitted per person in three countries from 1967 to 2007.

Overall, it is clear that the average CO2 emissions per person in Italy and Portugal gradually grew over the 40-year period. Whereas, the United Kingdom and Sweden both showed a steady decrease during the same period.

Looking more closely at the graph, one can see that Britain was ranked the highest in CO2 emissions in 1967 with nearly 11 metric tonnes, but witnessed a slow fall during the years after and hit a low of roughly 9 tonnes in the final year. In the first year, the average amount of carbon dioxide emitted per Swedish was at nearly 9 tonnes. In spite of a sudden surge in 1977, this country's statistics shrink consistently in the remaining years and hit a low of 5 tonnes in 2007.

It can be said that Italy and Portugal nearly showed the same tendancy when both of their figures grew steadily over the 40-year period. Although started with the lowest average carbon dioxide compared to the others, Portugal did not witness any decrease in its figures and peaked at relatively 6 tonnes in 2007.
