News stories on TV and in newspapers are very often accompanied by pictures. Some people say that these pictures are more effective than words. What is your opinion about this?

Photographs have become an integral part of the news stories. Public feels that visualsarean effective means of sharing the news as these create more impact than textual presentation. I am in sync with this statement and hence this essay will shed light upon how using pictures in news storiesincreases the probability of getting more attention by the viewers and readers and also bring forth the authenticity of the news as people are able to related well with pictures.

Undoubtedly, pictures are impactful as they give a clear idea about the story being reported. In today’s scenario, where life has become so fast, hardly people find time to read long stories. Instead, they prefer to look at the images and make an understanding about the news brought forward. For example, amid this pandemic, when our mobiles are flooded with corona related news and hardly we find time to look at each of them, one single picture or info graph is more than sufficient to gain our attention. Hence, use of images in news help us to overlook the lengthy texts and focus on the images to get an idea of the news.

Secondly, using photographs in the stories not only serves as an evidence ofthe truth but also thehonesty of the media house in its approach of presenting the news. After watching the news on TV or reading the same in newspaper withillustrations, the audience is able to relate better to it. For example, in a recent survey by All India Media Association, it was found that whooping 87.06 percent viewers and readers count on those media houses which bring the textual news along with the pictorial presentation as it reflects the truthfulness of the news. Hence, it is evident that news stories accompanied by pictures are authentic and can be relied upon by audience.

To conclude, I opine that including pictures in news plays an important role in seeking the viewers/readers attention and in less words, tell us a big story.
