News stories on TV and newspapers are very often accompanied by pictures. Some people say that these pictures are more effective than words.
What is your opinion about this?
In maximum stories covered by TV, newspapers or any other media they tend to attach some relevant pictures. This pictures give us a glimpse about the about the event. Many people consider this pictures to be more effective than the articles written. In my opinion, pictures is very important to help us visualize the situation but they are not alternative to words.
Firstly, pictures can be misrepresented in many cases. A written document along with a photograph or art will make sure the ordinary people do not misunderstand the situation. For instance, a picture of an intense situation like a helicopter firing from the sky. Without any background story no one will understand if the helicopter targeting some terrorist shell or an innocent people a target village.
Secondly, reading any piece of articles gives a lot of associated information to readers. Like an article describing an extinction of a rare bird also includes relevant information of its origin, current situation and birds facing similar fate. Articles or voices narrated in newspaper or TV shows respectively are also used later in other research work as well.
Nevertheless we cannot opt out the importance of pictures as it make a vivid impression of the articles in front of the reader. Besides pictures are stores in human memory more than a written summary.
In sum, it can be said that although picture is not an alternative to writings but its association with any written piece make the content more comprehensible.
