News stories on TV and in newspapers are very often accompanied by pictures. Some people say that these pictures are more effective than words.

What is your opinion about this?

Over the years, there has been a tremendous development in the methods of delivering news to public. Whether through TV, newspapers and internet. News stories are very often accompanied by pictures, yet there has been a debate between people, about the effectiveness of pictures over words. This essay will discuss both views.

Some people prefer to hear about the news through pictures and videos. From their point of view, pictures can show the facts and news in a clearer way, not to mention also in an extremely fast approach. They support their idea by the fact that we live in an extremely fast paced era. Thus, we no longer have enough time to waste over reading many lines in newspapers to know whats happening around us, while in the same time, a series of pictures can deliver the whole story in couple of seconds.

However, other people think differently, they are desperate about losing the words in the news. In their belief, pictures can never deliver the whole story. Moreover, pictures can be misleading. I stand by this point of view, as many newspapers aim to increase their selling's rate by using fake pictures just to grab the attention. In addition to relying on some similar previous occasions' pictures when not having new ones. Thus depending only on the pictures without reading the details of the story, will surely lead to miss-understanding.

As a conclusion, using pictures in the news stories is a good way to supplement the words and develop the image of the story, nevertheless, they will never be more effective than words. Not mention, pictures alone will never be a reliable source for the news.
