Today single-use products are still very common. What are the problems associated with this? What are some possible solutions?
It is undeniable that using disposable products are still a common trend among consumers and productions. However, despite the affordability of these goods, it may give rise to grave concerns. In this essay couple of issues will be outlined and will suggest the most valuable solutions.
The main problem caused by disposable items is their accumulation whether in water bodies or even controlled landfills bringing about environmental pollution. This is because single-use products not only are used only one time but also tend to remain there unlimited time being non-degradable contaminating water and soil. Furthermore, it may emit toxic gases and harmful substances over time which tend to negatively affect the ecosystem. In other words, contaminated water, as well as polluted soil, may jeopardize the fauna, dwindling numbers of species and human society on a global scale. Poisoning of drinking water, famine or drought due to lack of safe irrigation and infertility of soil is a prime example of detrimental effects.
The best remedy to tackle these issues might be a total prohibition of disposable items by replacing them on non-disposable. For this reason, the authorities should take drastic measures such as levying taxes on producing non-biodegradable and single-use products. Moreover, raising awareness of possible dire consequences, people may be engaged to refuse to consume. Another way to address problems is construction waste processing centres. This is important because only recycling may contribute to reducing already existing landfills without adverse effect on nature. To illustrate, the Netherland government has been invested in recycling has managed to address plastic pollution by inspiring their residents to use only reusable items.
In conclusion, while disposable products are widely used, it can lead to harmful effects on the environment giving rise to contamination with negative knock-on effects. The most effective methods might be forbiddance whether producing or using and encouraging to recycle.
