Students are more influenced by their teachers than by their friends

Essay topics:

Students are more influenced by their teachers than by their friends.

Firstly, the reading claims that Torreya can be relocated to the northern part of Florida in which it thrived for thousands of years due to a specific micro-climate that is favorable to Torreya. The professor refutes this point by saying, it is unlikely that relocation will benefit Torreya. She states that the temperature and water content of these areas of microclimate are changing due to changes in the conditions of larger areas. Thus, they do not have the original microclimate condition in which Torreya thrived.

Secondly, the article posits that Torreya can be moved to an entirely different location like the forests in the northern area. However, the professor says, relocation to a completely different location can have some unpredictable outcomes. She gives the example of The Black Locust Tree which was relocated to a different environment and spread so fast that it killed several species of plant which were last of their kind.

Thirdly, the reading says that Torreya can be preserved in the research center in a closely monitored environment. The professor opposes this point by saying, labs cannot sustain the large population of Torreya necessary for resisting the diseases. She explains, in order for plants to be able to resist disease, they should have a large, wild and diverse population but the laboratory cannot help sustain that many trees.

Some people believe Students are more influenced by their friends than their teachers. However, I disagree with this statement. In my opinion, students are more influenced by the teachers than anyone else. I support my statement with two reasons.

Firstly, students spent a major part of the day in the classroom, in the observation of teachers, so teachers know a lot about students and know how to place them in the correct path. During the high school days, a student is in the class for almost one-third of a day, with that much time teachers start to understand the students like what are his (student's) weakness, strengths, motivation, fears, and many more. After knowing that much about the students, teachers often try to nudge the students in the right direction. The majority of the students obediently accept these nudges and try to work through them to improve. For example, I remember, my condition in 7th class was really poor in terms of academics due to several health issues. After observing my performance and me for several months, my class teacher called me to her office. At first, I was frightened, but later she placated me by giving me some water. She discussed several topics with me, topics I was struggling with. Then, she offered to teach me in her free time and asked me to try some of the tips and tricks for studying. After several months under her guidance, I was able to recover and scored third place in my class. Thus, teachers can influence the students to perform well in class.

Secondly, students see teachers as role models and try to imitate them. It is very much the case that students see teachers as perfect examples of role models, best in everything from studies to clothing. After admiring, they try to imitate the teachers in order to improve or become better. I remember a student named Amit in my class who started to become more interested in A.I. research after observing the professor doing the experiments. Thus, it can be said that students admire and try to imitate the teachers.

In conclusion, there are some students who are more influenced by their friends. But for the majority of students, this is not the case. Thus, it can be said that students are more influenced by their teachers than anyone else.
