The readig mentions strategies which biologists have suggested to preserve tortoise from extinction. The lecturer, on the other hand, rejects notions proposed by scholars and finds them dubious.

First, the passage states that it would be an advantageous strategy to designate a pine forest. The professor, conversely, states that it would not be practical. He states that, he is unsure that the tortoise would be provided by enough grass to feed on. In fact, the suggested areas are prone to periodic fires that would annihilate the grassland.

Second, the letter proposes to artificially breed tortoise in laboratory. The lecturer, in contrast, finds this idea impossible, too. He mentions the propobilty of disease that would be hard or impossible to be treatend. Furthermore, sick tortoise may infect other healthy tortoises.

Finally, the reading proposes to reintroduce tortoise to the areas which contain no tortoise and are suitble area for turtoises. The professor, however, believes that the tortoise is a kind of home-extinct specy, which tend to live only in their original habitat. Thus, moving them to new unknown habitat, would cause the tortoise to reject the new area and try to leave there. Moreover, it would be a pottential hazard for them because they should pass across crowded roads and increase the probability of their crsh with cars.
