Altruism is a type of behavior in which an animal sacrifices its own interest for that of another animal or group of animals Altruism is the opposite of selfishness individuals performing altruistic acts gain nothing for themselves Examples of altruism ab

The reading passges states about altruistic behavior by using examples of human and the meerkat. however, the professor introduced new findings in this field that those behaviors do not come from altruism.

First of all, the professor explains the sentinel meerkat already have had full amount of meals before standing guard for the ohters. Moreover, since the sentinel has a chance to observe first its predators, it most likey to escape when the other meerkats get in trouble. however, the reading passages explain this as a unselfish beahavior to save its memebers of group.

On top of that, the alram that the meerkats create can draw the predators attention. Also, because of this alram, the meerkats gather together in one limited area, which makes it hard for them to survive in dager. Therefore, the sentinel meerkat luckily makes a use of its chance of survival.

Finally, human donates its kidney seems like selfless behavior with the absense of any kind of appreciaiton, but actually the donor is given the non-moteral form of appreciation from its hospital, the patient, and the city community. For some people, this non-material reward consider much more precious than material reward in their lives.
