Buying a Franchise
Both the passage and the lecture discuss franchising method in running a business. The author of the passage writes in favor of franchise method. The speaker, however, does not agree with the author`s point of view.
According to the author, in franchising method, new business starters would have no problem in finding reliable suppliers, because the franchising companies already have their own reliable suppliers. The speaker disputes this idea. She says that, franchise contracts are too strict to use franchising companies` suppliers, which provide expensive goods and materials, even though there are cheapest options in the market.
The author says that, when running a business with franchising method, there is no need to spend for advertising, because the franchising companies deal with the brand`s adds. The lecturer, on the other hand, says that business starter give their %60 of their money the franchising companies. She goes on to say that, the franchising companies just make advertiments of their brand`s name, it does not contribute to the business maker in any way.
The author concludes that the risk of having a failure in the business is lower than any other options beyond franchising. The speaker, though, has a different point of view. She says that, there is a third option that has lower risk of failure than other options, which is buying a business that is already been running. This third option has a double chance of not having a failure in the business, than franchising.
