colonization on asteroid
The reading and the lecture both about an asteroids.Asteroids are best colonization option for people.The author of reading believes that, it is best option for colonization for some reasons. The lecturer casts doubts on the reasons made in article.He thinks that colonization on asteroids is not good idea.
First of all, the author says that asteroids are smaller than planet so it has lower gravity. It is safer for spaceship to landing. He admits that it allows more equipment to carry which needed for colonization. It is easy to take off spaceship from there. This point is opposed by the lecturer. He says that, lower gravity increase the risk of health problems.Furthermore, he points out that, it reduce the bone density and looses the muscles.So the people cannot suffer it for longer time.
Secondly, the author states that asteroids are rich in elements which are rare in earth. The gold and platinum which are valuable elements which makes profit for people.The lecturer rebuts this reason. He argues that transportation cost become high than actual business of metal. He elaborates on this by mentioning that, there is no guaranty that price of metal remain same .If metal find in asteroids are larger in amount then market price will decrease.
Finally, the author mentions that it is easy to reach on asteroids than to reach moon or mars. He is of the opinion that many asteroids orbit around the sun nearer to earth. So it is affordable also. The lecturer, on the other hand, states that it is not easy to return all the time .He puts the forth that asteroids orbit around sun are not regular in distance to earth. If it travels far away from earth then it is challenge to return back to the earth.
In conclusion, the lecturer effectively casts doubt on all the reasons presented in the reading.
