Describing the ways in which elephants fascinate humans - TPO51

The text and the lecture offer two opposing views on the reasons why elephants are attractive to humans. While the text lists reasons to prove that elephants has qualities, uniquely appealing to humans, the professor repudiates the reading's reasons and claims that although elephants are interesting animals to humans, the reasons given does not seem rational.
For example, the reading states that elephants recognize that they are approaching death. In contrast, the professor asserts that when elephants become very old, their teeth get more and more blunt. Consequently, they can chew only soft vegetation. Such vegetation, as a matter of fact, grow more, in the vicinity of water bodies. This is the reason behind why in some locations, near water bodies, vast collections of elephant bones, named "elephant graveyard", have been found.
Another example, the author asserts that elephants have outstanding ability to create artistic works. On the contrary, the lecturer explains that elephants which take paintbrushes and draw shapes have been trained to do so. A trainer attend beside them, and, continually, manage their painting by touching their ears. In fact, elephant ears are very sensitive, and through touching it, the trainers can learn them to take paintbrushes and also guide them while painting. In addition, these animals are not aware of what they are painting. They do not know whether they are creating a picture of a flower or an illustration of something else. Simply, they just strike the paintbrushes.
Finally, the reading claims that elephants, like humans, fear mice. On the other hand, the professor elucidates that this fear is an instinctive reaction, all the animals, not only elephants, show, in reaction to unfamiliar animals. To be more specific, when zoo elephants which are familiar with mice confronts them, they do not fear because they do not infer any threat from these mice. Therefore, such a reaction is a very natural behaviour and is not symptomatic of elephants with regard to mice.
