Did bees (a type of insect) exist on Earth as early as 200 million years ago? Such a theory is supported by the discovery of very old fossil structures that resemble bee nests. The structures have been found inside 200- million-year-old fossilized trees i

The passage offers three arguments protesting that the old fossil structures found inside 200-million-year-old fossilized trees was made by bees, all of which are dismissed by the lecture.

First off, while the lecturer concedes that no bee fossil of 200 million years old was found, she claims that no fossils does not mean no actual bees. The reason is that bees can only be fossilized by stick liquids produced by certain tree species, which, unfortunately at that time, is too rare to preserve bees.

Second, the professor does accept that modern bees survive on flowering plants, but she does not believe that this had to apply to 200 million years ago. Chances were good that what they subsisted on were other plants, and that it was only after flowering plants evolve that bees began to adapt to a different way to survival.

In addition, although she admits no cap of spiral pattern was found in the structure, she points to another evidence that links the structure with modern bee nests. For example, chemical analysis suggests that both fossilized structures and modern bee nests share the same water-proof material.
