Both the reading and the lecture are discussing about Agnostids which were a group of marine animals that became extinct about 450 million years ago. While the reading passage provides some theories about how agnostids may have lived, the professor casts doubt on them and believes these theories are weak.
First, the author makes the point that the agnostids may have been free-swimming predators that hunted smaller animals. The speaker, however, demonstrates that this idea could not be true because predators need large and developed eyes that can help them to find preys. However, the agnostids had tiny poor eyes, and they were blind presumably, so they needed another organs which could help them to chase preys that it could not be proven due to fossils remained.
In addition, despite the theory mentioned in the reading passage that the agnostids may have dwelled on the seafloor, the lecture argues that seafloor-animals do not move fast and they are speared in locally area. The agnostids' fossils show that they were multiple and speared in large area. This fact shows that they could move pretty fast that is abnormal for seafloor animals. Therefore, they could not be seafloor dwellers.
Lastly, the writer states that agnostids were parasites possible. The professor calls this idea into a question by saying that the population of parasites is limited because they can kill off the host. But the vast amount of agnostids' fossils demonstrates that the population of agnostids was large; hence, this large population ruins the theory that they could be parasites.
