Effects of electronic devices

Essay topics:

Effects of electronic devices

Both the reading and the lecture are about the effects of using electronic devices. The passage states that people nowadays prefer to use electronic devices which cause serious side effects on humans and provides three bad effects to endorse its idea. However, the professor states that the mentioned effects of electronic devices are not true and gainsays each of them.

First and foremost, the passage begins by asserting that screens affect people's critical thinking ability because the information we get online is not professional and authentic. So, the people do not get an update and reliable knowledge. On the other hand, the speaker explains that paper does not improve a person's thinking parameters. In paper information, not only it is associated with a particular author but also the opinion are biased which is something not healthy for people's learning. In contrast, there are different viewpoints of various people on the internet which is accessed through screens. Thus, it improves the quality of thinking.

Next, the professor further points into the details by mentioning side effects are not only limited to mobile phones and computers but also reading from paper and books as it causes headaches and stiffness in the neck. He explains that the only solution is to change body habits while using learning materials either electronic or paper. Taking regular breaks and stretching your body is a profound solution to this problem not avoiding electronic devices. These claims refute the author's implication about electronic devices' harmful effects on the eyes and brain cells by the light of these devices and electromagnetic rays coming out of them.

Ultimately, the article wraps its argument by mentioning addiction towards mobile phones which hinders interaction between people and affects their social skills. The professor in the lecture refutes this reason by showing the inaccuracy of the author that electronic devices improve people's social skills. They could find a wide range of topics and shared feelings of people online. Therefore, it helps to build their ability of being social with other people.
