fake coin or real coin

Essay topics:

fake coin or real coin

The passage presents arguments made by some archaelogists who believe the silver coin found in the Native American settlemments of Maine is a fake. The lecturer disregards all the points made in the article and believes the coin can be possibly a geniune evidence. Her further demonstrations are as follows.

First, while it is true that the Native American site had great distance from the Norse settlements, the Native Americans could have obtained the coin in their far away trips. They were a population used to travelling very far distances and also interested in collecting objects attained on this journies. Subsequently, the gathering of the coin from the Europeans despite the long distance is persumed to be possible.

Second, although there were no other coins at the Norse site, this does not cast doubt on the real origins of the coin. The Europeans did not set up a permanent residence, and at some point, they packed their belongings and moved to Europe again. Hence, it is possible that other coins were present as well in their stuff, but they were packed up and retuned to Europe among their luggage.

Third, Americans at that time would have not understood the value of the silver coin as money in the way we comperehend today, or the Europeans compehended back then.
However, they still would have appreciated the beautiful and interesting nature of the coin. Therefore, although they may not have been interested in obtaining the coin as money, they could have easily been keen on gaining the coin as an exotic object to be used for its beauty, for instance, in a necklace.
