glass and birds

Essay topics:

glass and birds

Both the passage and the lecture talk about some possible ways to prevent the birds from getting hurt on the buildings' glasses. The reading part suggests three solutions that bussineses can use to prevent birds from getting hurt. However, the listening part disputes the ideas given in the reading. It says that none of the solutions given will not stop birds from injuring.
According to the reading, the use of the one-way glass will help the birds to stay away of the glass because they will think it is a solid barrier. This specific argument is challenged by the lecture. It says that, the use of one-way glass will be a big problem, because it will have the effect of a mirror, and birds do not understand the mirror effect. It will reflect the sky, and birds will fly straight to it thinking it is the sky.
Moreover, the author of the reading says that using colored glasses will stop the birds to fly through the glass. On the other hand, the professor says that, using a painted glass will also be a problem. He says that birds can pass open hole and they will fly through them. He says that, those un paint holes have to be extremly small so the birds can not pass thru, but it will make the inside very dark.
Finally, the passage proposes the use of magnetic field that will make the birds fly away from the building. Yet, the lecture does not agree with this proposal. It says that this will not wor either. It claims that, the magnetic field is used by birds when they travel long distances. When they migrate from the cold places to warm places, but in short trips it will not have much effect , as birds use their eyes and the light to travel short distances.
