Both the reading and the lecture discuss the possibility of bees’ existence on Earth as early as 200 million years ago. In the reading section, the writer contends that skeptics cast doubts on the existence of bees and provides three reasons for support; however, the professor refutes reading points by indicating that the arguments are not convincing.
First of all, the writer claims that there are no fossil remains related to the 200 million years ago; in contrast the professor states that although there are not fossils of bees related to 200 million years ago, it does not mean that bees did not exist at that time. Actually, there were not proper situations in order to preserve fossils of bees. Fossils of bees could preserve in trees with risen which is sticky liquid; however these kinds of trees were rare at that part of time.
Moreover, the reading passage holds the view that the flowering plants which are closely connected to bees have not existed; on the contrary, the lecturer underlines the fact that bees at first fed on non-flowering trees such as fern and pine trees and after a revolutionary history, flowering plants have evolved.
In addition, the writer mentions that since the fossilized chamber do not have spiral pattern, it is likely that structures are related to the other insects; conversely, the professor indicates that even though fossilized do not have spiral pattern, chemical analysis shows that they use special water to build chambers; as a result these distinctive compositions prove that fossilized structures are related to the bees.
