The lecture mainly contradicts the information given in the reading passage stating that the Peary Robert reached the North Pole whereas the lecture says that the arguments presented in the reading are not convincing. There are various points discussed in the lecture to cast the doubts in the reading passage.

Firstly, the speaker tells about the reliability of the Geographic Society Committee about the Peary's claim. The speaker says that the major members of that committee are Peary's close friend so that financially support him in the trip. Furthermore, the committee decision lasted only two days and this limited time does not guarantee a reliable decision. For these reasons, the reading claim is not trustworthy.

Secondly, the author says that another explorer named Tom Avery had a trek similar to Peary's trek in terms of the distance and had been done less than 37 days as Peary did. On the contrary, the speaker says the conditions in two trips are too different. Because, unlike the Peary trip condition, Avery carried the much less weight and faced with in favorable weather condition.

Thirdly, the author states that the photographs taken by Peary at the North Pole verify his history, since the position of the Sun estimated through evaluation the shadows in the pictures is based on the natural rule. However, the lecture rebuts that statement by pointing out that the quality of those pictures is poor due to this fact that they were taken by the primitive camera and seem to be unclear after about a hundred years. Therefore, the measurement by means of those photos could not be accurate.
