The reading asserts that frogs are becoming extinct, which has a bad effect on ecosystems. The lecture, however, finds the idea dubious and casts doubt on the reasons proposed by the reading passage.

The author argues that frogs are being damaged by pesticides, which are chemicals that get rid of insects and put frogs’ lives in danger. Therefore, the government should pass a law that prevents farmers from using pesticides near sensitive frig habitats. Conversely, the lecture brings up the idea that reducing pesticides should be follow the regulations that will not be economical for the farmers and they will lose their competition since they use the chemicals for producing more crops and they will have lower yields.

Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that a fungus is the main factor that impacts frog population decline. this fungus causes the frogs' skin to thicken, which prevents them from absorbing water. As a result, the frogs die of dehydration. Researchers have found several ways to cure the infection, such as using antifungal medication or killing the fungus with heat. if these treatments were used on a large scale, they could protect sensitive frog habitats. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that the treatment should be use individually to each frog and using the cure on a large scale is extremely difficult because treatment should apply more and more and these treatments would be incredibly complicated and expensive.

Finally, the reading passage asserts that the last factor that causes frog population decline is the destruction of natural habitats. this is because most frog species lay their eggs in water, and many habitats like wetlands have been manipulated by human activities. this is detrimental to frogs’ lives. if authorities control the overuse of water in marshes and lakes, it could help frog populations from extinction. In contrast, the speaker dismisses these issues due to the fact that the actual underlying factor for treating frog species is global warming rather than water usage thus, prohibiting water usage won’t mitigate damages in frogs’ habitats.
