the koalas population

Essay topics

Both the reading passage and the lecture discuss whether the populations of wild koalas will likely continue to decline. The reading poses three pieces of evidence that make the koalas population decrease. However, the professor in the lecture disagrees with the reading statements by stating three refutations.

First of all, the reading passage mentions that the loss of habitat will treat the koalas. Nonetheless, the professor opposes the statement by stating that planting trees can solve the problems of habitat loss. Furthermore, since the planting should be done strategically to prevent fragmentation, scientists suggest creating the vegetation corridors to reconnect the fragmented habitats or treeless land. With the long narrow strip of trees that connect different parts of the forest, koalas can follow these paths from one forest patch to another. Therefore, he believes that the koalas’ population will not decrease by using the approach of planting vegetation corridors.

Secondly, the passage proposes that automobile collision may be the second reason to make koalas’ population decrease. Yet, the scholar opposes because the automobile collision influences can be reduced by setting wildlife crossings The Australian government utilize the water-carrying tunnel to be the wildlife crossings, so the koalas can walk on the platform built above the water level inside the tunnel to pass the road. With these tunnels, koalas can move under the road safely and without getting wet. Consequently, he thinks that the automobile collision event are decreasing due to the setting of the koalas’ wildlife crossings.

Last but not least, the reading poses fencing is a major obstacle to koalas living in the urban areas.
Nevertheless, the lecturer disputes the statement since it can solve this problem by planting trees nearby the fences. since the koalas have a hard time climbing on the fence through the flat ground, it is better to plant trees near the fence to build the natural ladder for koalas. Additionally, another way to build the koalas’ climbing paths is to use tall wooden pole and lean it against the fence to create an angle. Hence, he does not think that the fence will be the reason that decrease the population of koalas.

In conclusion, the professor disagrees with the reading statements. that is, he thinks the habitat losing, automobile collision, and fencing problems can be solved to prevent the koalas’ population decrease.
