logging

Essay topics:

logging

Both reading and lecture try to discuss Salvage logging process after forest fires and it affects on both forest and economy. In the reading section, the writer contends that damaged forest and economy benefit from salvage logging process and he provides three reasons for support; however, the professor casts doubts on reading points by indicating that maybe this process help forest recovery but in the long run, it leads to damages to forest and its economic effects is questionable.
First of all, the writer claims that since dead trees’ decomposing takes many years, it will obstruct growing new trees; in contrast, the professor rejects this notion by stating that clearing damage forest would not necessarily a good condition for trees growth and also, dead trees enrich soil and removing them may lead to reducing necessary nutrient in the soil.
Moreover, the reading passage holds the view that can be beneficial for the health of forest because insects such as spruce bark beetle can damage healthy trees; on the contrary, the lecturer underlines the fact that these insects are not major problem for forest and also, damage trees are good habitats for birds that can be good contributor for forests.
in addition, the writer mentions that since salvage logging has positive effects on the economy due to providing usable wood for industries and increasing job position; conversely, the professor indicates that these positive effects are small and do not last long. The process of recovery needs a helicopter and expensive instruments and also, it provides temporary jobs that need an experienced person from outside so it cannot a beneficial job for local residents.
