Many scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would be impossible. First, atmospheric

The reading states that the inhospitable and extreme conditions on Venus makes it impossible to maintain a permanent human presence and gives reasons for support. However, the professor explains that although its challenging, yet it is possible to create a permanent station on venus. He elaborates by saying that a station floating in the venus’s atmosphere 50 Km above its surface can solve the problems, thus refuting the points mentioned in the reading.

First, the author posits that as the atmospheric pressure on the venus’s surface is 90 times higher than that of the earth’s, there is possibility that humans will get crushed like the spacecrafts. However, the professor says that the atmospheric pressure 50 Km higher from the surface of venus is lower and equal to that of the earth’s surface, so this would eliminate the danger of getting crushed.

Second, the reading avers that venus has no reservoirs of water on its surface but, Co2, nitrogen, and sulphuric acid, which raises the necessity to supply water and oxygen from the earth. The lecturer provides the solution to this issue by explaining that chemical processes can be carried out using carbon dioxide and nitrogen on the station to make water and oxygen which is essential for human survival. As a result, it will not be necessary to import water and oxygen from earth.

Finally, the author claims that lack of sunlight on venus’s surface due to the clouds will prevent the use of solar power cell. Consequently, there would be no electricity to power the machines. The professor disagrees to this. He mentions that the clouds 50 km above the surface will be less dense. Above that there will be considerable sunlight which can be filtered by station. Also, the sunlight reflected by the clouds can be collected. Thus, solar cells can collect sunlight from both, above and below the clouds. This energy will be more than enough to generate the electricity required to run the station.
