The author talks to us about the solution proposed by ecologists for invasive species that cause many problems in North American, in the contrast, the speaker believes that these solutions are not efficient for destroying cheatgrass.
According to the author, the first option is that encouraging animals to feed on the cheatgrass. Animals such as cattle can graze in the fields where the cheatgrass is prevalent, this issue causes the cheatgrass to be reduced.
The second option is burning the cheatgrass. This plan allows the vast amounts of cheatgrass to be eliminated in a short time. this grass burns much more easily than the native plant species.
Another option is using fungus to attack cheatgrass. This plan is prevalent in Asia and Europe. North American also uses this plan to make slow the spread of cheatgrass.
The speaker says animals prefer to graze in the native plant field so native plants are destroyed by cheatgrass. Burning the cheatgrass harms the soil and does not mean the cheatgrass can't come back quickly again.
The fungal parasite just makes week or sick the cheatgrass and it does not mean the cheatgrass can't develop again.
