Official 40 Task 1

Many scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would be impossible.

The reading passage illustrate three aspects of impossibility of migrating to Venus. Whereas the professor refutes this idea from the passage. To be specific, he believes that floating on the atmosphere of Venus could solve these problems.

First, the reading material mentioned that heavy pressure on Venus would crush everything such as craft and something else brought by humans. But on the floating station, where, for example at an altitude of 50 kilometer, there will be lower pressure than the passage have mentioned above due to a common sense that the higher there is the lower the pressure can be, nothing could be endangered.

Secondly, when it comes to atmosphere, the absence of water and the exceeding quantity of carbon dioxide are easy to balance. Compounds like carbon dioxide, sulfuric acid and so forth could making fresh water. As a result, there is no need to import water to the station.

Finally, thick clouds and carbon dioxide do block sunlight preventing it from reaching the ground. However, the floating station could not only receive most of sunlight penetrating through clouds but also acquire sunlight that was reflected by carbon dioxide at under layer.

So the professor states that it is possible for people’s migration.
