Online graduate degree programs are being offered worldwide. In many respects, the programs are like the same degree programs available in a traditional campus environment, but in several key aspects, they are very different.
The passage and lecture are both about offering online graduate degree programs in worldwide, the reading puts forward 3 main different aspects of the programs while the lecture casts doubt on the reading's points of this kind of program.
Firstly, As the passage illustrates that there were no programs which were one-on-one time with the professors because of regularly holding hourly office and expectation of having the conferences with the students moreover, invitation and informal interactions can't bring them to see their graduate students in person. but the lecturer opposes this point by stating that it depends on the students to talk with the professors, furthermore, there are several ways to communicate with the graduate students, for example, using email, telephone in politic faculty.
Secondly, the author posits that the majority of online graduate programs were not intriguing and qualified like their on-campus counterparts, and the different quality of the course like easiness or even refutation to teach the online course were considered as an impediment by many professors while the professor refuses that online course must meet the same standard as other courses. As his example, 20 courses were, at first, seemed easy but after all, required more self-discipline and time management than regular courses.
Finally, online degree programs and online options weren't available in top schools as the passage showed, and conventional program need be completed by using their time in residence. However, the lecturer argues that most of the top schools didn't offer online course and there are few schools offering an online degree program, and these schools allow students to finish the entire conventional program, according to that, online options were provided by many top schools as well.
