The reading passage discusses about various health benifits of avocado. Mainly, these benifits are stated under ability to reduce blood pressure, benifitial for pregnancy and lower cost price. However, the lecturer contradicts with the statements of the passage.
The first reason stated in the passage in order to prove avocado as salubrious food is because of copious amount of vitamins, minerals and fats like folic acid. It is stated that these nutritions would aid in lowering the blood pressure. On the contarty, the lecture opposes this position by stating that avocado has about 29 grams of fats which is equivalent to 300 Calories. If avocado consumption index is not accounted, higher consumption of avocado might result in weight gain. This eventually would minimize the health benifits of avocado.
Secondly, it is stated that avocado is quite good for pregnant woman because of higher presence of folic acids. These folic acid would aid in reducing miscarriage and neural tube disorders. But, the lecturer is against this statement. He claims that avocado is unsafe for pregnant woman because it reduces milk production in woman and might hamper the mammalary growth of woman. In addition, baby stomach are very sensitive to avocado, which is not good.
Finally, avocado is considered to be quite cheap food product and it may supplement meat consumption as it tastes like meat. Eventually, it would reduce the consumption of expensive food items like sea foods and meats. Nevertheless, the lecutere provides various exemples to prove that avocado is not cheap. He claims an avocado would cost as much as a pound of apple or a dozen of banana. Also, it requires higher amount of natural resources like water to grow avocado; which proves avocado is quite expensive.
Therefore, although the passage states health benifits of avocado, the lecturer proves these to be illogical and unreasonable. The lecturer views selecting avocado in human diet as irrelevant considering the arguments placed in the passage.
