Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific solutions proposed in the reading passage.

The author of the article states that using glass as a material in buildings is dangerous for birds and provides three solutions to solve this problem. In contrast, the professor explains the solutions outlined in the passage are not effective and repudiates author's opinion.

Firstly, according to the reading substituting regular glass with one-way glass is a good solution which prevents birds to go through glass. On the other hand, the lecturer discusses that since one-way glass acts like a mirror, birds cannot recognize the things that they see in the mirror is just reflection. As a result, they are prone to crash with one-way glass.

In addition, the author of the text emphasizes that painting lines or other patterns such as thin stripes would prevent birds to go through glass. However, the speaker is skeptical about this solution, as painted patterns misleads birds. Therefore, they would go into clear parts of glass, unless the stripes become extremely thick. In other words, extremely small unpainted area of glass makes the building so dark from inside and not beneficial.

Finally, the text makes it clear that synthetic magnetic field would guide birds to go away from glass and avoid them to be injured. On the contrary, the professor indicates that birds are using their magnetic ability to find their way while they are traveling long distances. Indeed, traveling through a city, they make advantage of their eyes and light. Therefore, magnetic guide is not useful to direct them to go away from glass of buildings.
