Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific solutions proposed in the reading passage

Poachers illegally kill rhinoceroses for their horns, which could be sold for large amount of money. To prevent all rhinos frombecoming extinct, the reading passages propose three ideas. However the professor says all of the solutions have weaknesses.
First, rhino horns can be surgically removed without hurting the animals. This strategy was used in the early 1990ssuccessfully. However, the professor points out that doing this requires time and money. And even if the horns were removedsuccessfully, the chance of rhino survive is reduced, because rhinos use the horns to find water and food. In addition, they needto horns to protect the young and their territory. Removing their horns hurts the rhinos in the wild.
The second idea is to educate the consumers that the rhino horns do not have health value. This will reduce the demand forthe horns. However, the professor argues that people's belief of the health value of the rhino horns are ancient, going backthousands of years. When people have such strong cultural beliefs, scientific evidence is not going to change people's minds.
The third idea is legalizing the sales of rhino horns. Governments could sell the horns taken from the poachers cheaply.Thiswould make rhino poaching no longer profitable and likely to stop it. However, the professor counters the idea by pointing outthat the demand for rhino horns might increase, because people might start buying the rhino horns once it become legal. Largerdemand would increase prices and attract poachers. Legalizing rhino horn sales might lead to opposite effect.
