Question : Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage.

Undoubtedly, dinosaurs' ability to fly has always been a controversial topic among specialists. More specifically, the reading puts forth the argument about a special kind of dinosaurs, namely Pterosaurs, not being able to fly, and elaborates this claim by some reasons. On the other hand, the professor believes that there are some serious flaws with the points made in the reading. She, in detail, addresses the problem with each point made in the reading.

First of all, the writer states that these animals are cold blooded, and cold blooded animals can not produce the amount of energy needed to fly because of their slow metabolism. The professor, however, claims that recent researches show existence of some dense fur covering on Pterosaurs. Fur is needed for animals with high metabolism, so this means that these dinosaurs were probably warm blooded, and therefore, had no problem to produce enough energy to fly.

Secondly, the writer talks about Pterosaurs heavy weight making them unable to fly. Not suprisingly though, the professor holds an opposing view and says that their special anatomy, like their bones being hollow, made them weigh much less that their body size, resulting in them being perfectly fit for an airborne animal.

Finally, the reading wraps up the argument and points out the fact that all animals with powered flight were able to take off from the ground. It also states the inability of Pterosaurs to take off because of not having powerful muscles in ther back legs. Then again, the lecturer refutes this point by claiming that these animals are not like any other birds. They use all four legs to take off instead of using only the hind muscles. She also brings up an example of bats as a modern animal who similarly use all four legs to take off.

In conclusion, The writer and the lecturer obviously have conflicting views about Pterosaurs ability to fly.
