R. robustus

Essay topics

The lecture and the reading are both about an animal Repenomamus robustus whether was a hunter or not.The author of the reading believes that R. robustus was scavenger. The lecturer casts doubt on claims made by the author. She notes that the mammal was an active hunter.
First of all,the author argues that R. robustus was small in the size of domestic cat.The article mentions that with such a little height, this creature could not hunt. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. She states that robustus was twice as massive as young child of psittacosaurs. Additonally, professor thinks its weight was much more than prey's,which can ease hunting process for R. robustus.
Secondly, the writer suggests that an evidence about legs support the fact that these animals were egg-eater.In the article,it is said that their short legs restricted the pursuit of preys. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning Tasmanian Devil. She elaborates on this by bringing up the point that since this modern critter can move fast with short legs, the Repenomamus robustus could chase their foods with high speed, meaning that it was an active predator.
Finally, the author posits that there are not marks of teeth on eaten dinosaur's bones. Moreover,it is pointed out R. robustus found not protected nest with eggs(inside the eggshell were small baby psittacosaur) and then swallowed them.In contrast, the lecturer claims that there were firm jaws of the ancient mammal for grabbing and holding on prey. She thinks that the predator did not used back teeth to bite and swallowed its prey as a whole or in large parts.
