The reading excerpt states that there are doubts whether some paintings such as Portrait of Elderly women in a white bonnet that are attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him, the author provides three reasons for support. However, the lecture's audio claims that there are a lot of problems with the author theories and she refutes each of them by stating the cause behind the arguments is not obvious.

First, the article avers that there is something inconsistent about the way the woman in the portrait is dressed, that she was wearing a white linen cap of a kind that only servants would wear. In contrast, the professor opposes this point of view by saying that the fur collar analysis showed that it was not a part of the original painting, but, it was added after a time, in order, to increase the value as it showed the form of aristocratic ladies. Therefore, this doubt is wrong and not credited to the what the lecturer discussed.

Second, the passage points that Rembrandt was the master of painting light and shadow, but in this painting, these elements do not fit together. On the other hand, the lecturer argues this theory by stating that the original painting was simple with light color clothes that reflected the illumination to the face, moreover, it was realistic and that what expected from that painter. So, this point of view contradicts what the professor explained.

Third, the excerpt mentions that the examination of the back of the painting reveals that it was painted on a panel made of several pieces of wood glued together while the painter not used the glue in his paintings. In contrary, the speaker contracts this idea and says that this painting enlarged to be more ground and with more value, so that, they used pieces of wood. Moreover, it was made by the same type of wood which is from the same tree as Rembrandt was used. Thus, this theory is definitely wrong.
