Both the article and the lecture was about salvage logging which is defined to be removing dead trees out of forest. The passage states that it is a crucial act for maintaining the forest healthy and provides three reasons of support. however the professor refutes each of these reasons.

First, the article states that by removing trees out of the forest there will be more room for new trees to grow up. Nevertheless professor indicates that however it may lead to more room for new trees but decomposition of these dead trees in nature, enriches the soil and provide it crucial nutriants

Second, the article claims that dead trees is a very good habitat for insects which will harm the forest, and if trees remain in the forest the population of insects will increase. however the lecture refutes this reason by claiming that, these dead trees are o good habitat for other usefull birds and insects too. she avers that these usefull birds and insects are of paramount importance for the live in forest.

Third, the passage claims that salvage logging also have economical advantages and the dead trees can be used for their remaing wood and it also provides addition jobs. The lecture refutes the economical advantages. The professor avers that removing the trees out of forest will need helicopters and big vehicles which are very expensive and it wouldn't be aconomical. she also believes that these jobs are temperory.
