Smarr cars technology

Essay topics:

Smarr cars technology

The reading and lecturer are both about the advantages and disadvantages of the use of smart cars in the near future. The three ideas of the reading are in favor of the new technology. The lecturer challenges each one of the author ideas. I will explain how he does this.

First, the reading states that smart cars technology will produce safer driving conditions by avoiding collisions. The lecturer challenges this idea. On the contrary, even the most advanced technology fails and since this technology allows cars to travel at a short distance from each other, an accident will result in pile-ups. The lecturer concludes that there is little reason to believe that smart cars will be safer.

Secondly, regarding the idea that highway commuting will decrease the time of people driving to and back from work. The lecturer disputes this idea. She explains that every time a new convenience technology is launched, more people adhere to this resulting in more cars on the highway. Therefore, commuting will become a nightmare.

Lastly, according to the reading, the new technology will be less costly to drivers due to the fact that the GPT in cars will allow drivers to take not only the fastest but also the shortest route that there is. The Lecturer opposes this idea. She believes that this new technology, on the contrary, will be more expensive than traditional mechanical repairs. For example, the sensors that need to be installed in the cars and the GPT will be far more expensive than today's’ car parts.
