Spartacus the rebel leader who fought against the Romans with an army of fellow escaped slaves is one of the most famous figures in ancient Roman history Spartacus led his men against their Roman oppressors and managed to defeat the Roman army in several

Both the reading and the lecture talk about Spartacus fighting against Roman's army. The former mentions three reasons why he is a fascinating hero. The professor, on the other hand, casts doubt on the idea by explaining that it is true that Spartacus was a real person who fought against Roman, but it is historically accurate aspects the text holds. Accordingly, she attacks each of three reasons given in the reading as follows.
First of all, both the author and the professor posit his goal as returning to home. The author explains that Spartacus' main goal was to come back home taken by Romans. The lecture, in contrast, rejects the idea by pointing out that this was not his real aim. According to her, when Spartacus defeated the Roman, he could escape and go home. But, instead, he marched toward them to take revenge and also become wealthy individual, not the goal the article addresses.
Second of all, both the article and the speaker put forth whether he was a military genius person or not. The writer suggests that Spartacus was a military brilliant man due to relatively small and bad-equipped army he had, nonetheless conquered Roman army. The speaker, conversely, rebuts this by saying that Roman Empire didn't take him seriously at first. She adds that when the Romans sent their best army to fight Spartacus and his men, they defeated them which shows he was not a genius.
Third, both the writer and the lecturer put forward whether he wished to liberate all Roman slaves or not. The passage avers that one of his goals was to liberate slaves and despite getting an offer from Roman to be a Roman senator, he refused it, for the goal he pursued. The lecture, however, refutes this by explaining that this is not backed by evidence. She continues to say that it goes back to 18th century European who their thinkers and writers wanted an inspiration hero from ancient time as antislavery one, introducing Spartacus. As a result, this that he wanted to free all slaves of Roman, is an inspiration story not historically correct.
