Spartacus: the rebel leader who fought against the Romans with an army of fellow escaped slaves
The reading passage state that spartacus as a rebel leader who fought against the roman army as a hero. However, the professor in the lecture casts doubt on the points made in the reading.
First, considering the article spartacus original goal in his conflict that he wants to return home. In contrast, the professor in the lecture contradicts the idea and further explains that return home is not the only goal of spsrtacus and his men but he wants more such as revenge and wealth because he was so ambitious.
Second, the reading claims that spartacus and his men were so small army and he was a professional army man. Admittedly, the professor in the lecture justified the information presented in the reading and makes the point that actually the roman government not take him seriously, so they sent a poor army to defeat him but after roman failure romans sent a better army to fought aginst him.
Third, the author in the reading passage puts forward the idea that spsrtacus librate all roman slaves and rejected a roman senator position. In the same way, the speaker justified the idea and adds that this is a story by the antislavery movement and they want a hero for their movement, so they make such this story.
To sum up, both the writer and professor holding conflicting views about Spartacus as a hero. It's clear that they will have trouble finding common ground on this issue.
