Many people have benefited from social media because they have been able to find friends who share the same interests, passions, and hobbies. Regardless, the lecturer held that when the number of social media users increased in the United States in 2004, many families were negatively affected. Families started to interact less and talk to each other just for important matters. Moreover, children relied on social media for communication and connected more through screen fields than they do with their close friends and family members. As a result, these actions created an impact on people's social skills.
Overall, the lecture and the reading address the positive and negative impacts of social media.
