Summarise the points made in the lecture. Be sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage.

The lecturer completely refutes the reading passage. It is explained how a four-day workweek it is not beneficial neither to the companies nor to the employees. There are the following reasons to support this idea.

Firstly, the lecturer states that a shortened workweek will force the companies to spend more money instead of increase companies’ profit. This is because more space and computers will be necessary in addition to training requirements and medical benefits for new workers, which enhance considerably the companies’ costs. This idea disagrees with the reading passage that states that companies’ profit will increase due to the reduction in work errors.

Secondly, the lecture explain that the unemployment rate will not be diminished because hiring new workers is an additional cost to the companies. Furthermore, the companies will choose employees to work overtime or they will be required to do the same job in less time, which is unpleasant and not generate additional job vacancies. This directly refutes the reading passage which states that unemployment rate will be reduced by the four-day workweek.

Finally, the lecturer believes that the risks of a four-day workweek will decline the quality of life of employees. What this means is that would be a deleterious effect in stability, chances of workers achieve better positions in their careers or even lose their jobs. Which are all disadvantageous consequences for their lives. The article, on the other hand, states that the quality of workers life will be ameliorated, therefore they will spend more time with their families and will have more leisure time.
