Summarize the main points in the lecture, and then explain how they cast doubt on the ideas in the reading passage.
The reading and the lecture are both about increasing sales. The author of the reading provides three theories about how to increase sales. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. He says that according to Rackham's research these theories are not accurate.
First of all, the author points out that if you want to get more orders you need to make more calls. It is mentioned that salesperson with contacting more potential customers will also get better at making calls, Furthermore, sales increase depends also on the type of the product. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that making calls is only effective to low priced products, but not for the high produced products. Also, preparation for the calls will not increase the sales.
Secondly, the author contends that contacting people from higher positions in the organization is more effective than calling people from lower positions. The article notes that if the call is made to a lower-level employee then salesperson will be transferred to a higher-level person in the second call will be necessary. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He suggests that calling the lower-level employee and higher-level employee results with the same number of sales.
Finally, the author states that closing is the most important part because if a salesperson continues the conversation without closing than the sale may be lost. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that closing the conversation with deadlines will be successful.
